Explore small business products with flexible plan options

Did you know that 88% of employers rate health care-related benefits as extremely important or very important to their workforce?3 Help retain and recruit talent with our group health insurance solutions. Choose from a range of options designed to support your business and your employees' health and well-being.

Surest® plans

Give employees a plan that offers more control over their health care experience. Surest plans provide clear, upfront copays and no deductibles or coinsurance. Benefits are designed to be easy to understand, without shifting costs to employees.

Fully insured plans

With a fully insured plan, the insurance company manages all employee claims for a fixed monthly premium. They take on any financial risk and handle administrative tasks. This can help make costs more predictable and simplify operations.

Level funded plans

Our customer-priced plans are built to offer flexibility and give you more ways to save. Plans are based on your employees’ actual medical claims, which means your health plan could get a potential year-end surplus if claims are lower than expected.4

Benefits built for employees

Our plans take a whole-person approach to health, offering a variety of benefits like wellness programs, mental health support and care management services. Some of our no-cost programs and services include:

  • 24/7 Virtual Visits: Access health care professionals anytime, anywhere
  • UnitedHealthcare Rewards: Earn incentives for completing healthy actions
  • Vital Medication Program: Eliminate out-of-pocket costs for essential medications like insulin, epinephrine, glucagon, naloxone and albuterol

You can also choose to offer additional benefits options to your employees, like dental, vision and life insurance coverage.

Frequently asked questions

To get health insurance for your small business (2 to 50 employees), you can explore options through the Small Business Store. You can also chat with a licensed agent to learn more about our different plans and find the best fit for your business.

Small businesses with fewer than 50 full-time employees are not required to offer health insurance under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Full-time employees are defined as people who work 30 or more hours per week. However, offering health insurance can be beneficial for attracting and retaining employees.

The cost of small business health insurance varies based on plan type, network coverage, benefits, location and employee ages. Employer contributions, ranging from 50% to 100% of the plan cost, also impact the overall cost. Typically, employers share the cost with employees and may choose to contribute to the costs for spouses and dependents.

Health insurance premiums paid by small businesses are generally tax deductible. Small businesses can deduct the cost of health insurance premiums as a business expense on their federal taxes. Additionally, businesses that qualify for the Small Business Health Care Tax Credit can receive a credit for up to 50% of the premiums paid. Consult with your tax expert for additional information.
