Frequently asked questions
To get health insurance for your small business (2 to 50 employees), you can explore options through the Small Business Store. You can also chat with a licensed agent to learn more about our different plans and find the best fit for your business.
Small businesses with fewer than 50 full-time employees are not required to offer health insurance under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Full-time employees are defined as people who work 30 or more hours per week. However, offering health insurance can be beneficial for attracting and retaining employees.
The cost of small business health insurance varies based on plan type, network coverage, benefits, location and employee ages. Employer contributions, ranging from 50% to 100% of the plan cost, also impact the overall cost. Typically, employers share the cost with employees and may choose to contribute to the costs for spouses and dependents.
Health insurance premiums paid by small businesses are generally tax deductible. Small businesses can deduct the cost of health insurance premiums as a business expense on their federal taxes. Additionally, businesses that qualify for the Small Business Health Care Tax Credit can receive a credit for up to 50% of the premiums paid. Consult with your tax expert for additional information.
