Frequently asked questions
Sanitas Medical Centers offer primary health care services in locations all over the world. UnitedHealthcare is partnering with Sanitas Medical Centers to help you and your family focus on your best health. This is called a health system partnership plan, which is when a health insurance plan (UnitedHealthcare) works with a specific care network system (Sanitas Medical Centers).
This partnership supports a value-based care model, which may offer plan members benefits like more 1-on-1 time with your Sanitas PCP, access to convenient Sanitas Medical Center locations in your community, PCPs who speak Spanish and more affordable care costs.
Value-based care plans focus on delivering quality, affordable care that supports your health and well-being. By managing all your care through a Sanitas primary care provider, you’ll build a relationship with a provider who knows your health history and can refer you to trusted specialists when needed. And, because your care team all work together within the Sanitas network, you’ll enjoy more affordable, predictable costs while getting care that’s designed around your life.
The open enrollment period for UnitedHealthcare Sanitas plans begins November 1, 2026. You must enroll by December 15, 2026 to be covered starting January 1, 2027.

Yes, with a UnitedHealthcare Sanitas plan, you’ll need to manage all your care through a primary care provider. That means if you need care from a specialist, like an allergist or cardiologist, your PCP will first need to submit a referral for you to make sure the services are in network and covered by your plan. Known as a “gated” plan, this type of coverage may help save you money and ensure you’re getting the right kind of care.
With these plans, seeing your Sanitas Medical Center primary care provider (PCP) is your first step to getting care. Your PCP will help you stay on top of your health and refer you to network specialists as needed. If you choose to see a non-Sanitas care provider or specialist, that visit will cost more because it’s not covered by your plan.
Unless it is a medical emergency, your first step in getting care should be your local Sanitas Medical Center. This will help you get the lowest cost of care. If you choose to visit a non-Sanitas clinic, that visit will cost more because it’s not covered by your plan.
