LCMC allowed our contract to expire

The health system has chosen for its hospitals to leave our network after refusing to move off its 34% price hike demands

LCMC sought a 34% price hike that would have made its hospitals significantly more expensive than any other New Orleans health system while increasing health care costs by $99 million for consumers and employers. As a result, LCMC’s hospitals are now out of network for people enrolled in employer-sponsored commercial plans, including UMR and Individual Family Plan (IFP), as of Nov. 1.

LCMC’s physicians continue to remain in our network for our employer-sponsored commercial plans, including UMR and IFP. Likewise, LCMC’s ancillary provider locations such as its urgent care centers also remain in our commercial network on and after Nov. 1.

People enrolled in Medicare Advantage plans, including Group Retiree and Dual Special Needs Plan (D-SNP), as well as our Medicaid plan, are not impacted and will continue to have network access to LCMC’s hospitals, facilities and its physicians.

We know LCMC’s decision to walk away from our negotiation is unsettling and has many of our members rightfully concerned. Our goal has always been to reach an agreement that is affordable for people and employers. We compromised throughout our negotiation and proposed meaningful rate increases that would continue to reimburse LCMC at market-competitive rates.

We will remain at the negotiating table as long as it takes to reach an agreement. We urge LCMC to join us there and share in our commitment to restore network access to the health system at a sustainable cost.

However, our top priority at this time is providing people with access to the care they need through continuity of care or a smooth transition to another hospital, as appropriate.

UnitedHealthcare members in active or ongoing treatment at an LCMC hospital for a serious condition at the time they left our network are eligible for continuity of care.

Continuity of care provides continued in-network benefits for a period of time after a hospital leaves our network. Some examples of conditions eligible for continuity of care include but are not limited to:

  • Patients who are pregnant
  • People currently in active cancer treatment
