Mayo Clinic

New multi-year agreement provides continued network access to Mayo Clinic for commercial and Group Retiree plans

We recently reached a multi-year agreement with Mayo Clinic that provides continued network access to the health system’s provider locations in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa for people enrolled in employer-sponsored commercial plans and Group Retiree plans.

Mayo Clinic will be out of network for Medicare Advantage individual and D-SNP plans starting Jan. 1, 2026

Starting Jan. 1, 2026, Mayo Clinic’s provider locations in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa will no longer be in network for people enrolled in Medicare Advantage individual plans and Dual Special Needs Plans (D-SNP).

We know how important it is to have uninterrupted access to care. That’s why we’re letting members know ahead of the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP). If you’re enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan and want to keep access to Mayo Clinic, be sure to review your plan options during AEP.

If you switch to a Medicare Advantage plan for 2026 that includes Mayo Clinic in its network, you’ll continue to have access without any gap in coverage.

This change does not affect Medicare Supplement plans. If you’re enrolled in a Medicare Supplement plan, you can continue receiving care at Mayo Clinic after Jan. 1, 2026.

If you're receiving ongoing care for a serious or complex condition at Mayo Clinic when it goes out of network, you may qualify for continuity of care—allowing in-network benefits for a limited time

Some examples of people who qualify and are eligible for continuity of care include but are not limited to:

  • People in active treatment for cancer
  • Individuals in ongoing treatment for transplant services

UnitedHealthcare members who have questions regarding continuity of care should call the number on their health plan ID card.

Even with this change, UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage and D-SNP members still have access to a large, high-quality network of providers across Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa
