Yes, with a UnitedHealthcare Sanitas plan, you’ll need to manage all your care through a primary care provider. That means if you need care from a specialist, like an allergist or cardiologist, your PCP will first need to submit a referral for you to make sure the services are in network and covered by your plan. Known as a “gated” plan, this type of coverage may help save you money and ensure you’re getting the right kind of care.

With these plans, seeing your Sanitas Medical Center primary care provider (PCP) is your first step to getting care. Your PCP will help you stay on top of your health and refer you to network specialists as needed. If you choose to see a non-Sanitas care provider or specialist, that visit will cost more because it’s not covered by your plan.

Unless it is a medical emergency, your first step in getting care should be your local Sanitas Medical Center. You can visit Sanitas clinics in the South Florida area only. This will help you get the lowest cost of care. If you choose to visit a non-Sanitas clinic, that visit will cost more because it’s not covered by your plan.
