How can I use my UCard?

While UCard features vary by plan, all members should use their UCard as their member ID when checking in at provider visits. Depending on their plan, eligible members may also be able to use their UCard to:

Yes. Your UCard is your new member ID card. It includes all the plan information needed to visit your provider or fill a prescription, if applicable. Your new UCard can be used when your plan coverage starts and throughout the plan year.

Yes. You’ll need to activate your UCard to make purchases with your available balances. However, your UCard does not need to be activated to visit your provider or fill a prescription, if applicable. Your new UCard can be used when your plan coverage starts and throughout the plan year. If you haven’t activated your new UCard, you can activate it now. 

UnitedHealthcare takes your privacy and data security very seriously. The UCard does not contain any of your personal health information or personal financial information. If you have more questions about your private information, please call the toll-free number for members on your UCard.  

You can shop at over 55,000 participating stores in the S3 network. The S3 retail network is an exclusive retail network that allows you to shop with your UCard at Walmart, Walgreens and CVS, or at neighborhood stores near you. 

Tip: The S3 retail network is always expanding so be sure to use the store finder to find a store near you. Sign in to browse the store finder

Common non-covered items include: Alternative medicines, including probiotics, baby items, cosmetics, hair products, moisturizers, teeth whitening products, food and meal supplements, including weight loss products.

  • Electric 
  • Gas 
  • Heat  
  • Home phone 
  • Internet 
  • Sanitation 
  • Sewer  
  • Water 

In-store — Use your UCard to help pay approved utility bills at your local Walmart MoneyCenter or customer service desk. Payments must be submitted to billers within the Walmart Bill Pay network. Remember to bring your UCard, government-issued ID and a copy of your utility bill to set up bill pay. Once bill pay is set up, you can simply use your phone number to look up an account with an existing utility company or add a new one and make a payment with your UCard. 

Online — Use your UCard to help pay approved utility bills on the same site you shop for covered products. You can easily search for an eligible company within our Bill Pay network to pay for utility services on your member site or the UnitedHealthcare app. 

If the payment from your UCard does not cover the full amount owed, you are responsible for paying any remaining balance due using another form of payment accepted by the utility company. 

Use your earned rewards loaded on your UCard to buy items. Approved categories include, but are not limited to: books, clothing, electronics, groceries, OTC products, sporting goods, toys, household items and more.  

Rewards cannot be used to purchase Medicare-covered items or services, including medical or prescription drug out-of-pocket costs, or alcohol, tobacco or firearms.
